We are already half way through Term 1 of 2015 and things are definitely in motion around here.

We are very excited about the future development of the Burnley Backyard and the Community Hub in the former Channel 9 site and their place in our vibrant and ever-changing community.

We are seeking to hire a Finance Officer for a new position that will run up until April 2015.

The Finance Officer will be responsible for providing a comprehensive accounting and advisory service to Richmond Community Learning Centre, ensuring efficient and effective financial practices are established. Part time 22 hours per week

We are seeking an enthusiastic Early Childcare Educator to join our team. We would like our Children’s Program Coordinator to be a strong team leader, a creative thinker and have excellent communication skills. You will enjoy a mix of responsibilities working directly with the children and families in our Occasional Childcare and 3+ Learning Program, as well as promoting and developing innovative programs to meet the needs and interests of our changing community.

Richmond Community Learning Centre is a family friendly employer and the role has scope for some hours to be accrued as TIL for school holiday times. If you think you would fit our team of dedicated Childcare Educators we would love to hear from you!

Farewell to Catherine

One of our Childcare Coordinators, Catherine, is returning home to New Zealand.  She has been a wonderful person to work with and we shall all miss her.

Catherine has put up a notice on the door to our Childcare Room (see image at right – poem author is unknown) – sentiments well expressed and applicable to all of our RCLC and other early childhood professionals who go above and beyond in the care and education of our children.

Annual General Meeting Invitation: Monday 11 November; 7:00pm

You are invited to attend our Annual General Meeting at 7:00pm on Monday 11 November at RCLC. At the meeting, we will elect a new Committee of Management, review and celebrate our achievements and consider new rules.

Nominations for our Committee of Management are open to all members. The Committee meets monthly and is responsible for governance, setting the directions and employing staff for RCLC. It is a responsible position where you get to make a difference in your community. If you think that you might be interested in being a Committee member, or just want to know more about what happens on the Committee, please contact me on (03) 9428 9901 or Susan Gair on (03) 9429 9943.

Review of rules

In November 2012 the old Victorian Associations Incorporation Act 1981 was replaced with the new Associations Incorporation Reform Act 2012. As an incorporation association, RCLC is bound by the new Act and our Rules must meet the legal requirements of the Act.

RCLC currently has rules based on the old Model Rules for Incorporated Associations. Our Committee of Management looked at options for replacing them and decided that the new Model Rules for Incorporated Associations would best meet our needs and legal obligations.

Differences between old and new rules

The main changes in the new rules compared to the old are:

  • Public Officer’s role is included in the role of the Secretary
  • Members’ rights are spelled out to a greater extent
  • Grievance and disciplinary and appeal procedures are more detailed

Thank you to everyone who completed the survey – your feedback has been invaluable and will help us with planning the future of our Children’s Services programs.  Of the survey respondents, we are pleased to announce that Loretta B is the winner of the free Party Hire – she has been notified and is looking forward to organising her next party at Richmond Community Learning Centre.

Online bookings for parties at RCLC now available

Did you know that you can now book your party yourself using our new online bookings system?  Check out what dates and times are available, book your timeslot and make payment to confirm your booking. Visit our website and click on the Book Now button on our Home page.

Setting a new course

While we’re on the topic of new systems, how about new programs and activities?  We’re currently developing an ACFE-funded iPad course which is particularly suited to beginners.  You might have heard about the new technology, haven’t bought one (yet) and want to find out more about it.  Is it really worth getting one?  Alternatively you might have bought an iPad/tablet but need to know about how to work with it for your home or job.  Either way, you will be learning on our iPads and use what you have learned to practice on your own iPad/tablet at home after class (if you have one).  More information will be posted on our website.  Contact us to register your interest.

When there’s not enough room to swing a …

Apart from our popular party hires, our centre also has rooms available to hire for non-social purposes.  You might be a community group, non-profit organisation, or business needing some space for a meeting, discussion group, class, workshop, presentation, demonstration, etc.  We’ve had hirers put on art classes for adults and children, children’s dance programs, social and support groups, AGMs, exercise and well-being classes and much more.  There is such an amazing pool of talent out there looking for affordable space to share what they do and know in their local community.

hire0004Parents and carers, we know that it is sometimes difficult to catch up in each other’s homes or at a local cafe so why not meet at a neutral location in your own neighbourhood?  We have rooms and a large child-friendly playground for you to enjoy with your precious little ones and other mums, dads, grandparents, nannies and more.

If your program or activity is open to the general public we can offer you free advertising on our website and other marketing streams for the duration of your hire.
